The
magnificent West Front contains the largest gallery of medieval sculpture in the
World. It is an illustration in stone of the Christian Faith. Starting in the
lower niches with biblical scenes, it rises through kings, bishops and orders
of angels to the twelve apostles.
Wander in the Cathedral precincts and discover Vicars' Close, built to house the
men of the choir and the oldest continuously inhabited street in Europe.
How to get there: Turn right at the bottom of Box Hedge Farm Lane,
keep going until you reach the A4174. Go right onto the A4174 following signs
for the M4 and Bristol. Go into Bristol on the M32 and then on to the A37 for
Wells. Alternatively left at the bottom of Box Hedge Farm Lane, keep
going until you reach the A46. Go right on the A46 to Bath picking up the A39
for Wells at Bath.
