Lying beneath the Cotswold escarpment is the market town of Chipping
Sodbury.
With its wide bustling market street, rich heritage of architectural styles and
original medieval town plan, it has a unique character.
The town plan, laid out in the 12th Century by William Crassus, remains
largely
unaltered today. He built the town on cross-roads of the east-west route between
Bristol and Oxford and the north-south route between Kingswood Abbey and
Keynsham Abbey.
Besides
many interesting small retail shops Chipping Sodbury has several pubs and
restaurants and a local bakery.
How to get there: Turn left at the bottom of Box Hedge Lane, go left
through Westerleigh village following the signs for Yate. At Yate follow the
signs for Chipping Sodbury. |
